How to choose a piston accumulator?

Everyone in the industry knows that piston accumulators are isolated hydraulic energy storage devices. It can be used to stabilize the pressure to eliminate the pulsating impact of the pressure in the oil circuit system. The piston accumulator can also be used as a storage and replenishment device for hydraulic energy. The accumulator is used to release the working oil in a short time to supplement the insufficient oil supply of the pump. So how to choose a piston accumulator? I will explain it in more detail below.

One is to adapt to the characteristics of the medium. Piston accumulators have high requirements on the cleanliness of the oil. If the oil cannot be sufficiently clean, choose a bladder-type accumulator and a diaphragm-type accumulator. For systems using water as the medium, bladder-type accumulators or diaphragm-type accumulators should be selected, because water is easy to carry more impurities, has poor lubricity, and will corrode the piston coating.

Second, the response time is appropriate. Bladder, diaphragm or piston accumulators are available.

Third, the inflation pressure is appropriate. Accumulators with suitable inflation pressure should be selected according to the different functions of energy storage in the hydraulic system. When the accumulator is used to absorb the pulsation generated by the system, the charging pressure generally takes 60% of the average working pressure; when it is used to absorb the pressure shock generated by the system, the charging pressure should not be less than the normal working pressure; when it is used for auxiliary When the power source is used, the inflation pressure is generally selected according to 80% to 90% of the working pressure, and should exceed the working pressure by 25%.

Fourth, the cycle frequency is appropriate. For systems with high cycle frequency, bladder-type or diaphragm-type accumulators should be used instead of piston-type accumulators, because excessive cycle frequency will cause unstable piston movement and damage to piston seals.

Fifth, if the accumulator is used to absorb shock and eliminate pulsation, it is better to choose the airbag type and diaphragm type accumulator to meet the functional requirements. The piston accumulator has poor response sensitivity and is not suitable for absorbing shock and eliminating pulsation.

Sixth, it is suitable for application occasions. The failure of bladder-type accumulators is instantaneous failure, and the failure of piston-type accumulators is gradual failure, so different forms of accumulators should be selected according to different applications. Steering and braking systems of construction machinery should be equipped with piston accumulators instead of airbag accumulators, because the instantaneous failure of airbag accumulators will cause serious accidents.
